You may not know anything about the Republic of Macedonia, but designer Rosica Mrsik will make fashion the one thing you do know. Hailing from Skopje, Rosica is renowned for her contemporary, sophisticated, colorful, and beautifully sculpted style. Rosica has been making high-end women’s clothing with a feminine appeal against an architectural approach of building a silhouette since 2009. Her construction leaves us in awe…and makes us want to visit Macedonia. Today, we chat with the designer about having goals rather than philosophies and her beginnings using design to communicate.

How and why did you start designing?

I started designing because of my urge to define myself visually. I always felt a need to express my ideas and tell stories through drawings and creating. When I was a child, I drew things I was inspired by on various surfaces.  Whenever my mind was overwhelmed with impressions, I used my hands to express and materialize my feelings.

What is your biggest hurdle building a brand today?

Keeping up with all the aspects of running a company and stay creatively productive.

What do you think about fashion today?

I am not a big fan of today’s fast fashion and massive production lines, that don’t pay attention to eco and ethical aspects. I adore creatively and diligently constructed clothes, built with lots of attention and dedication to details.

What is your fashion philosophy?

I would rather call it my goal – fair-trade clothes produced in an ethical and eco friendly environment. I believe the clothes I create should live their lifetime much longer than one trendy season, thus, my collections consist of high quality fabrics and genuine garments with a highly emphasized designer input.

Where do you go and what do you do for inspiration?

I suppose being inspired is not an instant notion derived from an instant experience or a situation. Sometimes, it is necessary to go back to stimulate an experience in order to use it as an inspiration.

Any tips and tricks of the trade?

Smart concept (approach and analysis to the market), efficient organization of the team work, and setting goals.
