What I want to change about the fashion industry…

I want to change the industry to be more receptive to accepting and helping emerging designers. (Hence Nineteenth Amendment!) Sometimes it seems like if you don’t work for a major name or label in the industry then it’s impossible to make an impact. That’s why Nineteenth Amendment was created – to help us launch our designs and visions into the industry – which sometimes feels like it’s locked up behind closed doors.

Why I design…

I design because it’s who I am and how I express myself. I have designed since I was a little girl who was never satisfied with what clothing was available for me or what clothing my, “My Size Barbie” was wearing. I find designing to be more than just self-expression, but a puzzle that fascinates me, that motivates me to try to find creative ways to solve it, that makes me and others feel good and that creates something special and unique. I couldn’t imagine doing anything else.

Why I signed up for Nineteenth Amendment…

I signed up for Nineteenth Amendment because I believe in what they are doing and I wanted to be a part of it.  Nineteenth Amendment is exactly what it’s named after – the Nineteenth Amendment wants to give everyone a voice, designers, consumers, etc. I design for plus sizes as well as standard sizing, and I personally want to help give myself (as I am also plus size) and those who are like me a voice in the industry – letting my work speak for myself as a designer and my consumer – trying to make an impact from the inside out!
